Debrief | Gaslighting, Obligation, and Empathy in Sunshine’s Story

In this debrief episode of Narcissist Apocalypse, Brandon returns to Sunshine's story to trace the patterns that kept her bound to a partner who gaslit her, physically abused her, and then used the legal system to push her out of her own home while she was pregnant. What began with promises of marriage and the feeling of finally being chosen became a relationship that swung between intense affection and violence within days, until his murder ended the cycle in a way that left Sunshine with both relief and grief.

Brandon walks through how her ex reframed abuse as jealousy and jealousy as proof of love, and how he turned every question about another woman back onto Sunshine by using kernels of truth. The episode also examines the hope attached to "Sober Steven," the kind version of him who surfaced between relapses, and the addiction relief loop that made the person hurting her the same person offering comfort afterward.
